FAQ

Q: Do entries have to be submitted in English?

A: No. We can also accept entries in French, German, Portuguese, Spanish, Swedish, Dutch, Danish, Norwegian, Polish and Finnish. We have a localized support team that will be able to judge entries in these languages.

Q: I can't write a whole story in 400 words. Can I submit the first chapter of a novel instead?

A: Yes. :)

Q: Can I submit a 401 word story?

A: No. 400 words is the maximum word count.

Q: Can I submit a story that's less than 400 words?

A: Yes.

Q: Is the title included in the word count?

A: No.

Q: How many stories can I enter?

A: Please only enter one story per person.

Q: Can I post my story up on the RuneScape/FunOrb Forums before I submit it to you?

A: You can but be aware that this is a double-edged sword. On the one hand, you could ask other players to help with your entry. On the other hand, some players may think it's a great idea and borrow elements of it for their own story. It's up to you to weigh up the risk versus the reward.

Q: Can I post my entry to the contest on here instead of emailing it to you?

A: No. We're only accepting entries emailed to us for this contest.

Q: When will the competition end?

A: 23:59 (GMT) on the 29th of March.

Q: How will the stories be judged?

A: Each story will be scored in the following categories:

. Imagery (metaphors, similes etc)
. Characterization (were the characters believable etc)
. Plot (were there any surprising twists etc)
. Impact (was it exciting, engaging, interesting etc)
. Structure (spelling, grammar, layout etc)

If there's more than one story with the highest score then those stories will be discussed by a panel of judges until we decide on one overall winner.

Q: Is there an age limit?

A: There's no age limit to entering, however if you're under 13 then please ask your parent/guardian to email us the story on your behalf.

Q: Do I need to include my postal address with my entry?

A: No. We will be in touch regarding your address if you win the contest.

Terms & Conditions

  • The competition will be run in accordance with any information or rules posted on the Jagex website relating to it.
  • 2 winners and 4 runners up will be selected by a panel of judges made up of Jagex staff members. All results are final.
  • We have the right to withdraw this competition at any time.
  • Your entry must be your own work and not violate the rights of any third party. You should not write something which is defamatory, offensive, libelous or otherwise objectionable.

What sort of format do we send the story in as? Do we send it as an attachment of a .doc or similar or do we put the story in the body of the electronic mail?

Edit: Apparantly the filter doesn't like the shortened version of the phrase electronic mail. No matter how I changed it, there were still stars over the first letter.
